What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Neal Harris Service Experts Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing in Kansas City always talks about how our technicians are NATE-certified, and while it sounds encouraging, what does it actually mean?

NATE is an abbreviation for North American Technician Excellence and, as stated on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed nearly 20 years ago and is supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all people in the industry are required to be certified through NATE. The certification is voluntary and technicians can service heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment without being certified through NATE.

It’s important to Neal Harris Service Experts Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing that our team is NATE-certified to make sure we are sending the most qualified and professional technicians into your home. To make sure technicians meet these criteria, the NATE-certification assessments validate real-world working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems for technicians. The exams are knowledge-based assessments that assess the technician’s knowledge of these standards.

Since Neal Harris Service Experts Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification and not refrigeration, there are only certain areas applicable to our technicians. NATE test candidates may receive installation and/or service certification in one or more of the specialty areas listed below:
