Frequently Asked Questions
There’s often a simpler solution to your comfort problem. Maybe you can find the answer you’re looking for in our FAQ below!
What is water treatment?
Water treatment refers to equipment or chemical products designed to improve the health and composition of potable water. A whole-home water filter system and water softeners are the most popular options. They can filter out contaminants and excess minerals capable of impacting taste, color and even cleanliness.
Is a whole-house water filter system worth it?
If you live in an area with more minerals in the water supply, a whole-house water filtration system is an excellent investment. Adding a water treatment system is especially beneficial if you live near construction, mining or agriculture industries.
Do I need a home water treatment system?
A water treatment system might be the answer if you’re constantly struggling with soap scum, spotty dishes or just a plain unpleasant taste. If you’re not sure, feel free to schedule a free water test from our Experts.
How does a home water treatment system work?
Many home filtration products use one or more methods to eliminate pollutants and sediment. This could include mechanical filtration, meaning the impurities are physically trapped within the filter itself. They’re often combined with a reverse osmosis membrane, suitable for organic chemicals and microorganisms. A few water treatment solutions even use ultraviolet light for its sanitizing properties.
How do water softeners work?
Water softeners utilize a tank filled with special beads of resin to attract and trap the minerals that cause hard water, such as calcium and magnesium. Hard water enters the bead-filled tank and the minerals are captured within the beads. The now-softened water is then pumped out for daily use. These beads can’t hold an infinite amount of minerals, so a salt solution is pumped into the tank. Thanks to the natural process of sodium ion exchange, the sodium molecules force the minerals out of the beads before they are drained from your water supply entirely.
What’s the best method for treating water at home?
The ideal water treatment system depends on where you live and your daily water usage. Anyone with chronic health problems may benefit from a whole-home filtration system, while those dealing with hard water may prioritize a softener system. The Expert plumbers at Neal Harris Service Experts can help you determine which product(s) would be perfect for your plumbing.
